We are so thankful for her two years of life that God has blessed her with, and we look forward to sharing many more with her!
We can only imagine all the things she would tell us if she could talk! Charlotte loves sunshine, sparkly things, music, and being outside! Her sweet temperament brings us joy. Her dearest wish is to run around with her older brothers, and we pray that one day God will fulfill that wish either in this life or the next!
Not all days—and nights—are filled with sunshine and smiles. In fact, Charlotte doesn’t remember how to smile anymore; her brain has already erased that muscle memory. And yet, somehow there is a pleasantness about her, and we can sense when she is happy and content.
Leading up to her second birthday, we weren’t sure how to celebrate the special day. Charlotte cannot eat solids anymore, so birthday cake didn’t seem like the best option. She can’t grasp things nor see well, so gifts of toys and trinkets seem futile.
Were we discouraged dwelling on this? Absolutely. Did this stop us from celebrating? Absolutely not. We celebrated one of the biggest and best gifts that God can give: life. God has given Charlotte life. Granted, she has lost some of her physical capabilities, but she hasn’t lost them all. God still gives Charlotte breath, a healthy heart, and a little spark that keeps her going. We are grateful for that little spark. It ignites a little fire of stubbornness inside of her, and we are honestly grateful to see some personality!
God has been so good to her—and to us! God has given us so many blessings that we never would have dreamed about if we didn’t have these circumstances surrounding our little family. We are so excited to see the special plan that God has for her, and how many people will know her story of what God is doing. Overall, we can see how generous God is. We feel the peace He brings through the heartache. We can see His faithfulness in the everyday trials. We can see the hope only He can give to keep us going. We experience the joy of being able to tell others about the work God is doing.
And we know that God is always, only good.
