No parent ever wants to watch his child slowly die. We never dreamed we would watch our two daughters slowly lose their ability to live. As humans, our natural response is to feel devastated or hopeless without Christ, but we recognize as believers that this is only a small temporary trial God has allowed us to endure.

To a Christian, death is not the ultimate end but rather a glorious beginning to eternity. We take great comfort knowing that Sophie and Charlotte are being promoted to eternal life, the greatest gift any believer can receive. We have hope that we will see them both again in perfected bodies. We’ll get to laugh, smile, and run with them forever. When our perspective becomes overwhelmed with Earthly matters, we often lose focus on the eternal. We are laying up treasures in Heaven not here on Earth.

Death is not our end; God has already conquered it. He watched His own Son die an undeserving death so that we would not have to live a hopeless life with a hopeless end. Once again, we are thankful for God’s gift of eternal life. God knows and understands what it is like to lose a child. He lost one on our behalf. Christ died so Charlotte and Sophie can experience a new life in Heaven.

We are overwhelmed by God’s love. We are undeserving of His gifts. We are in awe of His goodness. We are thankful He is always only good.
